Roots of Health /Ugat ng Kalusugan is a nonprofit organization focused on improving the health of women and girls, and their communities, in Puerto Princesa, Palawan, in the Philippines.
Mission
The organization’s primary objective is to empower women and young people to live healthy reproductive lives in Palawan, Philippines. We improve women’s reproductive health and decrease the number of unplanned pregnancies and HIV incidence by providing sexuality health education and access to modern contraceptives through our clinical services program. Our activities are guided by the international human rights framework, which includes a core belief that health is a human right, and activities are carried out using a community-based approach.

What You'll Do
Roots of Health is seeking a Nurse. This position reports to the Clinical Programs Manager and works in close coordination with the HIV Programs Manager, the Nurse will fulfill tasks relating to clinical service delivery. This is a full-time position in Puerto Princesa City with a probation period up to six months, depending on performance. Salary is commensurate with experience. Benefits include PhilHealth, SSS, Pagibig, health insurance, 10 paid vacation days, 10 paid sick leave days, 1 day birthday leave, 5 paid leave days for Holy Week, and 10 days paid leave between Christmas and New Year, and 1 paid leave for the APE. Responsibilities - Contraceptive Counseling: Counsel women and young people on contraception and sexually transmitted infections (STIs). - Family Planning (FP) Services: Perform and provide family planning (FP) services, including counseling, prescribing, and administering contraceptives, such as implants, IUDs, and pills, at program sites, clinics, and outreach activities. Clinical Procedures: – Pap Smear Tests: Perform pap smear tests for cervical cancer screening. – STI Testing: Conduct STI tests, including Gram staining, to diagnose and manage sexually transmitted infections. - Clinical Check-ups: Conduct health check-ups for women and girls at Ugat ng Kalusugan program sites and during outreach activities. This includes performing pelvic exams, prenatal and postnatal check-ups, basic care for cuts and minor injuries, and other essential clinical procedures. For community-based prenatal check-ups, identify signs of complications and refer clients to an OB-GYN, hospital, or lying-in clinic when necessary. - Health Education: Teach health information and education in small, community-based classes, equipping women and girls with vital knowledge about their health, particularly their reproductive health. Data Collection and Reporting: – Collect data from clinical service visits and input this information into Ugat ng Kalusugan databases to support monitoring and evaluation (M&E) processes. – Encode and submit reports on activities, events, and clinical operations as required. HIV – Monitors clients’ health, manages ART side effects, and reports complications or adverse drug reactions. – Provides counseling, emotional support, and education on HIV, ART adherence, and treatment protocols. – Supports treatment adherence by addressing barriers, coordinating referrals, and ensuring continuity of care. – Maintains accurate client records and coordinates with inventory staff to ensure medication availability. Job Qualifications Required: - Passionate about providing compassionate, non-judgmental, high quality care to women and girls - Training in community-based HIV screening and counseling is an advantage. - Board certification in nursing - Valid PRC license - Highly organized and detail oriented - Enthusiastic, flexible and good-humored, with the ability to work effectively in teams - At least one year of direct nursing work experience Preferred: - Certificates of training or proficiency on FP procedures from DOH recognized training institutions on FPCBT level 1 & 2 (IUD and Subdermal Implant Insertion and Removal).
